Mr. Kenneth A. Richards

Mr. Kenneth A. Richards: Served as Manager of the League in 1986 to 1996.

Mr. Kenneth A. Richards became active in the Credit Union movement when he was first elected to the Supervisory Committee of the St. Alphonsus Credit Union in 1956. In 1958 he was elected to serve on the Board of Directors and was appointed treasurer. During that same year, he was elected to the Directorship of the Credit Union League Southern Chapter, and subsequently combined to form the Dominica Co-operative Credit Union League in 1959. During that period he held the office of Secretary, Vice President and President of the Society.

Following Mr. Richards’s absence from the State for a year and half he served for two (2) terms on the Credit Committee and later returned to the Board of Directors. As a member of the League Board, he served as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President. Mr. Richards was instrumental in proposing the Field Services to Credit Unions which was adopted in 1968 and from that time an Officer was employed with the League.

In 1970 he was elected to serve as a Director on WICCS and he remained a Director until 1972, when WICCS was changed to Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU). He was part of a team which formulated the constitution of CCCU, and he became a Director at the first Annual General meeting of the CCCU held in Dominica in 1972. Mr. Richards was instrumental in proposing the idea of Central Financing in 1973.

Mr. Richards served as a Director until 1975. In recognition of his efforts to the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions, he was awarded a citation in 1982 as a member of the planning committee and a founder director of the CCCU.

He travelled to a number of out districts educating villagers on The Credit Union idea and was involved in setting up Credit Unions in Laplaine, Woodford Hill, Coulibistrie, Grand Bay, Riviere Cyrique and Laudat.

He conducted a number of training sessions on Credit Union philosophy and on the role and responsibilities of the officers of the credit union.

In 1981, Mr. Richards was given an award for long and dedicated service to the St. Alphonsus Credit Union. He left the League board in 1980 and retired after giving twenty-seven (27) years of voluntary service to the Credit Union Movement

Mr. Richards began at the helm of the League in 1986 and served as manager until 1996. He went to meet his Marker on April 9, 2016. The Management and staff of the League extend condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in eternal peace.
